Autel Energy begins EV charger production at N.C. plant

Autel Energy will begin production later in October at its North Carolina facility with the MaxiCharger 180kw–240kw DC Fast EV charger. The company notes that it plans to produce up to 5,000 DC fast chargers at the facility annually, employing 150 people initially and 400 within five years. The company says that the 200,000 sq. ft. facility in Greensboro, NC, has “undergone significant renovation and modernization since being purchased in May of this year.”

The company says the MaxiCharger 180kw–240kw DC Fast EV charger is National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding program-ready and meets Federal Highway Administration Build America, Buy America requirements.

NEVI funds states to deploy EV fast chargers along designated highway corridors to build a nationwide network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers. NEVI funding is available to retailers, businesses, and fueling stations that meet program requirements, including being no more than one mile from an established corridor, accommodating DC solutions power requirements, and offering the ability to charge four vehicles at 150 kW simultaneously.

Honda Motor announced plans to build a comprehensive EV value chain in Canada with an approximate investment of $15 billion CAD (approx. $11 billion USD), including investment by joint venture partners, to strengthen its EV supply system and capability to prepare for a future increase in EV demand in North America. Honda said it has begun evaluating the requirements to build a Honda EV plant and a stand-alone Honda EV battery plant in Alliston, Ontario. The proposed Honda EV value chain will also include a cathode active material and precursor (CAM/pCAM) processing plant through a joint venture partnership with POSCO Future M Co. and a separator plant through a joint venture partnership with Asahi Kasei Corporation, with announcements to follow in its respective Ontario communities.
