Lucid debuts European vehicles at the Geneva Motor International Show

The Californian EV company also revealed expanded service offerings and an updated portfolio of its Air lineup.

Lucid Group debuted three European vehicles at the Geneva International Motor Show from Feb. 26-March 3, the SUV Gravity, the Air Sapphire and the rear-wheel-drive version of the Air Pure, which will be presented to the European market. The Californian EV company also revealed expanded service offerings and an updated portfolio of its Air lineup.

Lucid is present in four European markets: Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and Norway. In these countries, the brand has established six Lucid retail spaces, called Lucid Studios. Lucid plans to open another four studios in Germany in 2024: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Stuttgart. There, Lucid said even more customers can book test drives and access the manufacturer’s options. In addition, Lucid said it has plans to expand the European Lucid service network, both with permanent locations and mobile solutions.

Lucid added its Air Pure RWD has an energy consumption of just 13.0 kWh/100 km (approx. 62 miles) and a maximum output of up to 442 PS/pk/ch, the RWD can reach 100 km/h (approx. 62 MPH) in 4.7 seconds and has a range of up to 747 kilometers (approx 464 miles). The Air Pure RWD has a base price of 85,000 Euros (approx. $92,948).

According to Lucid, the Gravity accelerates to 100 km/h (approx. 62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds, has a predicted WLTP range of over 700 kilometers (approx. 434 miles) and has a maximum output of more than 800 hp, which Lucis said is made possible by the latest version of its dual engine.

The latest forecasts from global technology intelligence firm ABI Research found that global EV sales are expected to grow by 21% in 2024 and 19% in 2025. This represents a significant decline from growth rates of 31% in 2023 and 60% in 2022, ABI Research said.

"A shortage of chargers and limited ranges are not to blame for this decline. It's evident from sales data and statements by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that the EV market is slowing down and failing to meet its targets," Dylan Khoo, an electric vehicles industry analyst, said. "While insufficient charging infrastructure and range limitations are often cited as reasons for this slowdown, they don't fully explain the stagnation, especially considering that these aspects are actually improving rather than deteriorating. Additionally, these explanations fail to consider the region-specific trends driving the EV sector changes."
