Range Rover reveals initial details on its first electric vehicle

Range Rover said the Range Rover Electric will deliver performance comparable to a flagship Range Rover V8.

Range Rover has officially opened the waiting list for its Range Rover Electric. The first fully electric vehicle from Range Rover will amplify its modern luxury credentials, the manufacturer said. Range Rover said the Range Rover Electric will deliver performance comparable to a flagship Range Rover V8 and the all-terrain capability developed in-house by Land Rover. The manufacturer said physical prototype testing is underway, as engineers test active road noise cancellation configuration, sound design and level of cabin comfort.

After a year of virtual development spanning front-end robustness, multi-body systems analysis that considers the demand on the chassis and virtual wading at up to 31 MPH, Range Rover said the first physical vehicles have been built and global on-road testing has started. From Sweden to Dubai, temperatures range from -40C to +50C (-40 to 122 Fahrenheit). The global physical testing program has been adapted for the Range Rover brand’s first fully electric vehicle to ensure the robustness of the electric drive system, including its underfloor, battery durability, chassis integrity and vehicle dynamics tests for thermal derating, the manufacturer said.

New Range Rover Electric will be designed, engineered and built in the United Kingdom, on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) in Solihull, England alongside existing mild and plug-in hybrid Range Rover vehicles.
