Here’s a newsflash: EVs are heavy. So are hybrids. And the simple truth of it is that many of the components in these vehicles need to work harder simply due to the stresses of their environment. Not even many of the components that have been tried and true on ICE vehicles get a break here – especially when it comes to bearings in the wheel hub. So, how do manufacturers ensure they can keep the wheels turning smoothly to help support the weight of the vehicle?
In many instances, the exact same bearing part number might be installed into a gasoline-powered or EV version of the same vehicle. However, that same bearing will have to work harder on an EV. These kinds of considerations aren’t taken lightly from the first time pen hits paper in the design stage.
