Electrify America to provide Volvo XC40 Recharge drivers with complimentary fast charging

Fast charging will be available at more than 635 public Electrify America stations and over 2,700 individual chargers, the company says.

Electrify America will provide drivers of the all-electric XC40 Recharge and upcoming C40 Recharge with 250 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary charging on its DC charging network.

Fast charging will be available at more than 635 public Electrify America stations and over 2,700 individual chargers, the company says. Program benefits will apply to first owners of all 2022 XC40 and C40 Recharge vehicles. Additional models and benefits will be announced.

Once drivers have used all of their complimentary charging, they will automatically be eligible for Electrify America’s Pass+, enabling drivers to charge at discounted rates, with membership fees covered courtesy of Volvo for a year.

As part of the collaboration, the companies say Volvo and Electrify America engineers worked together at Electrify America’s Center of Excellence technology lab to ensure quality charging experiences for Volvo drivers.

Electrify America says it is focused on building an advanced technology network consisting almost exclusively of 150 and 350kW ultra-fast chargers.

Electrify America announced the start of commercial operations for the new 75 Megawatt (MW) Electrify America Solar Glow 1 solar photovoltaic renewable energy generation project in San Bernardino County, CA. Electrify America Solar Glow 1 is the result of a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with developer Terra-Gen.

The company said this investment is expected to generate 75MW at peak solar capacity, which is comparable to the power drawn by 500 EVs charging at once at an average speed of 150 kilowatts. The total annual production is projected at 225 Gigawatt-hours (GWh).
